Brass Embossed Coal Box
19th century English hammered brass embossed over metal kindling/coal box. Medieval Coat of Arms, with knight above a crest shield depicting two owls and a cross on the front plate. On the top functioning hinged lid is another Coat of Arts with lions holdings a crest with a fleur-de-lis, sword, keys and a cross. In good vintage condition. Some patina color variation from age.
This is an ornate metal box, made of brass, decorated using the repoussé technique (hammering the design from the reverse side). Its exact origin and history are tied to the identification of the family or institution represented by the heraldry.
17 inches wide x 12 inches high x 12 inches deep.
